Alejandro Valverde participates this Saturday in the Vuelta Ciclista a la Región de Murcia, a race which is always special to him because it is the only professional cycling competition that takes place annually in his region. The Movistar Team rider has the record of victories with five successes in his extensive track record (2004, 2007, 2008, 2014 and 2017), the last one after a solo exhibition. He attacked in the first ramps of the Collado Bermejo and resisted in the lead until the finish line in the Gran Vía of Murcia.
The race continues crossing roads of Sierra Espuña, but it introduces small changes respecting past editions. In this way, Beniel will be the beginning of the race to conclude again in the capital of the Region of Murcia after 208 km of a steep route. Valverde joins their countryman José Joaquín Rojas, as well as by Imanol Erviti, Marc Soler, Andrei Amador, Eduardo Sepúlveda and Rafael Valls.
