The Murcian cyclist has rested after a hard and intense Tour de France, where he worked in favor of his teammates in the main mountain stages in the Alps and the Pyrenees.

The Vuelta has always been a special race for him. Winner of the general in 2009, final podium on four other times and winner of nine stages, his record in the Spanish grand round is one of the most complete of all participants in the 73rd edition of the event. The race that will count as usual with a spectacular route, with special mention to the finals in Les Praeres, Balcón de Bizkaia or La Gallina, and two days that will tread Valverde territory: the sixth with final in San Javier and the seventh with departure in Puerto Lumbreras.
